Culture of Corruption

One of the reasons the Republican party lost was simply due to its inability to control its members in ethical behavior.  The last two years have been nothing but the Culture of Corruption.  The Democrats were smart in how they played it, find a few Republicans out there who were not on the straight and narrow, talk about it and then leave the issue to the press.  They then got quiet, as it comes back to the old saying of Shakespear "Doeth do protest to much."  They knew that they had their own issues, and if the press stayed focus on these handful of Republicans who gave the House to the Democrats, that the Dems would skate free.

Now the election is over, and the number one issue of the election is simple:  Ethics matter.  If you remember back to 1994, we won the House in no small thanks to the corruption in the Clinton administration, Dan Rostenkowski, Tom Foley, the Post Office, amongst many others.  The electorate understands the rule of Lord Absalom "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely", and if you do not show an ability to police your own house than they will be the executioner without the police and the judge.

Nancy Pelosi, states that this will be the most ethical and open congress in history.  In my growing years I have become very discerning when I hear a promise like that, as it is almost impossible to keep.  When the amount of power and money is thrown in their face it is nearly impossible to keep the promise as there will be individuals such as Duke Cunningham, Jefferson, and Murtha who will succumbs to temptation.  To be in Congress, instantly suggests you are power hungry, which there is nothing wrong with on its face.  However, when more power is thrown in your face it is easy to give into taking more no matter how illegal or wrong it is.

This new Democratic Congress has just been elected, and barely a week into it stories are already pouring out in regards to the ethics of the Democratic leadership.  While the rumblings started prior to the election, Harry Reid is in trouble.  He is going to be the new poster boy of earmarking, and it seems to be that he likes to create legislature that not only is good for his reelection but also for his pocketbook.  Luis Guitterrez, Representative from Illinois, did exactly what Duke Cunningham did to receive his jail sentence.  He purchased a home well under value, and then sold it a few years later well above value.  Even Barak Obama is tied into this case, as he had a similar situation.  Possible House Majority Leader John Murtha is so bad that even CREW is attacking him.

This party was corruptible while not in power, imagine what it would be like in power.  With Pelosi already throwing Jane Harmon under the bus, whom I respect but disagree with, she is siding with the corruptible.  Do not forget that Alcee Hastings, who will be put in charge of the Intelligence Committee, was impeached from a judgeship.  Yes IMPEACHED, we saw how difficult it was just to get 48 votes in 98 for Clinton who admitted he committed a felony.

The MSM is not covering this story as of yet.  However, if there is an indictment or an investigation of Harry Reid I think you could see the doors swing open.  If the Democrats want to keep power they will need to begin investigations into their own party, and clean the air prior to the American People putting the last nail into the Democratic party.
